Ann Marie Mix and Susan Hammer have been co-founding trustees of the museum. The group sought to save a historic structure slated for demolition and to revitalize it as a group art gallery. The early arts organization was known Museum of Art as a “gallery” previous to the establishment of a permanent collection of artwork. The San José Museum of Art is a contemporary and modern art museum in downtown San Jose, California, United States.
